Competitive Manufacturing

National training qualification program, lean tools and techniques.

This accredited qualification was developed to drive change within organisations to increase their competitiveness.

The program is offered to individuals and groups within any facet of manufacturing.

With the ever increasing competitiveness, it is critical that we take every opportunity to review and improve existing processes to optimise efficiency, increasing quality, shortening delivery times, improving safety and reducing costs.

This program is largely based on Lean Manufacturing, and incorporates TQM, Six Sigma, front line management and other best practice principles. This program provides participants with the opportunity to contextualise these lessons by applying the principles to improve individual business needs, achieving real sustainable workplace improvements from the training.

About this Program

This is a practical based accredited program that is aimed at operators, technicians, trades people and supervisors with at least 3 years industry experience.

The training workshops can be delivered over a period from 10 to 24 months, with flexible arrangements for the mix of class room theory and on the job training. We mostly run enterprise specific programs; however general public programs are also arranged for smaller manufacturers.

This program has been developed specifically for the manufacturing sector by the industry itself, and incorporates aspects of change management as well as leadership.

Participants will be required to implement a range of lean manufacturing tools in their workplaces and undertake a range of activities, including the implementation of tools such as 5S, productive maintenance and a quick changeover improvement projects. Participants will actively engage with others during the workshops, and drive the application of process improvements back in their workplaces.

Some of the Program topics include:

  • Continuous improvement
  • 5S
  • Quick Changeover
  • The 7 wastes
  • Lean operations
  • Industry site visits
  • Sustaining improvements
  • Problem solving tools
  • Mistake proofing a process
  • Root cause analysis
  • Proactive maintenance
  • Leading change in the workplace

Awarding of a Certificate III or IV in Competitive Manufacturing will require active participation in all of the training topics and the completion of the workplace activities. The certificate is awarded only when the competency is achieved, and this is measured from the class assignments and applied projects.

Cost of Competitive Manufacturing

There are course fees associated with the program, however qualifying organisations and employees can get substantial funding per participant from the Federal Government.

Your investment can be as low as cost neutral, with your investment as little as the off the job training time, and with improvement projects being delivered during the program, your business will see improvement. The training delivery is designed to minimise off the job training time by application learning.
