When times are tough the tough get going!
At Lean Online we often discuss Ohno's reaction to naming the Toyota Production System as Lean. He reportedly calmly said the world should have called it "Learn." Simply he was referring to the lean philosophy where we all learn from the work we do today so we can make changes to do it better tomorrow.
Like improvement there is no end state to learning, supporting and encouraging employees to apply what they have learnt provides improvement momentum and creates further awareness, further learning and so the cycle continues.
Natural ability without education has more often attained to glory and virtue than education without natural ability. - Cicero
Lifelong learning and education pertains to natural ability, recognising that our learning is not confined to our early school days or even classroom activities, we learn most from a range of experiences and situations we have faced along the way. Therefore our employability, worth and social awareness comes from a combination of events including training, education and experience, building slowly piece by piece to where we are today. It is not what we read, but what we remember and not what we intend to do, but what we do that makes us useful and employable.
"Tell me and I'll forget; show me and I may remember; involve me and I'll understand." - Chinese proverb
It is unprecedented the technology progress we have faced and will continue to face, only lifelong learning and education has helped us keep pace with the advent of new technology into our workplace and social community. Most of us learn this by a combination of being told, being shown and having hands on involvement.
Using our on-line service is both simple and self paced. On-line learning is ideal for training new employees, employees at regional and remote sites and those on tight, unpredictable schedules that can access learning when it suits them.
Our whole approach to training and education is one that engages all of our senses, one which has a high level of on the job application, support and piece by piece building of knowledge and skills for a depth of understanding and retention.
"Teachers open the door, but you must enter by yourself." - Chinese Proverb
The learning experience we provide is usually fun and self satisfying to those who participate, they are provided with the foundation knowledge, support to apply their skills in workplace projects delivering real productivity returns to the organisation that far exceeds the initial outlay for the training.
"The ability to simplify means to eliminate the unnecessary so that the necessary may speak." - Hans Hofmann

Treat people as if they were what they ought to be and you will help them become what they are capable of becoming. - Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe
Lean infers:
- that traditional work (the way work is done around here) is the "current state"
- the current state to be the platform or foundation from which we explore, create or build a future improved state.
- we use the past to build a picture and gather the facts of work performance and levels of waste.
- past non value added work to be waste and noise, is to be challenged and eliminated.
- the present or current state to be by previous choice and the future state to be the desired, delivered by management and employees alike.
The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honours the servant and has forgotten the gift." - Albert Einstein
